Will a nervous cat still use the sensor?

Most cats treat it like a regular bowl after one or two sessions. You can tap the sensor with your hand to show flowing water, then leave it. If they freeze at movement, cover the sensor eye for a minute so they hear a short cycle, then uncover.

Is the steel food-safe? Any coating?

The drinking bowl is 304 stainless with no inner paint. Do not scour with steel wool; a bottle brush and mild soap is enough.

How loud is the pump, really?

At rest it is off. During a drink you hear a soft trickle, not a fish-tank rattle. If it rattles, the impeller usually has hair — pull the pump and rinse.

Does it stay plugged in all day?
